Financial Fumbles in Brigantine. The Missing Million.

Just over the bridge from Brigantine, Atlantic City is dealing with a pseudo state-takeover of financial operations. Who da thunk it? Maybe that’s why Brigantine leadership has been under increased pressure to clean up their books and tighten city operations.

At a recent Brigantine City Council meeting, a request was made from the Taxpayers Association to audit the financials of all local sports organizations, including the Brigantine Hockey League run by Paul Kabala and Chris Howe. To date, the city does not require or administer basic non-profit best practices of Brigantine sports teams.

Back in May of 2014, allegations of Brigantine overtime abuse were directed at City Hall as the former public safety director noticed that Brigantine fire captains were signing off on each others overtime requests and directly submitting them for payment.

This past council meeting highlighted the continued financial fumblings of Brigantine local tax dollars. The newly appointed auditor revealed: “Your general ledger is pretty incomplete”
