Owner and bombastic butcher; Mel Cortellessa, is the man making the sausage with host Guy Fieri.
Ernest and Son was started in 1977 by Ernest Storino and his son Sam. Brigantine native, Mel Cortellessa was hired in 1985 at the age of 13 as a clean-up kid and shelf stocker. He fell in love with the business, learned the trade, and bought the business from Sam in 2007.
Cortellessa has worked in this old school shop since he was 13, and after all these years…Mel decided to buy the place from former owner / Brigantine City Councilman; Sam Storino.

It’s not easy running a business in Brigantine. It’s even harder to get one started. But Cortellessa breaks the mold and goes against the grain. He believes that marketing, promotion and tourism is vital for economic development on the Island which is why he took this TV appearance so seriously.
This high-profile television promotion does not sit well with the Mayor and council who would prefer Brigantine revert back to a purely residential island. Mel Cortellessa of Ernest and Sons Meat Market seems to disagree with that old school thinking. Mel will do whatever it takes to make Brigantine a thriving Summertime destination filled with sun, fun and delicious sandwiches. Yum!
