Brigantine Secret Garden Tour….

Rain or shine 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 28. Island residents share their private gardens in this self-guided tour. The self-tour will highlight gardens that compliment various housing styles and plants you can use in our unique climate to achieve gardens that match your lifestyle. The cost of this event is $10. Tickets, brochure and map can be picked up at the Brigantine Community Center, 265 42nd Street South. Call the Garden Club answering machine at 609-266-3685 and leave your name and number in your party that you expect to attend.

Amateur Radio Field Day

Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29 at the Brigantine North End Observation Deck. The event begins at 2 p.m. Saturday and continues non-stop until 2 p.m. Sunday. SPARC will be making ham radio contacts on emergency power for 24 hours with other amateur radio operators around the world. This drill prepares for communication during an emergency. Several stations will be set up for contacts, including a Get On The Air station. All are welcome to attend. Call Gary Paul at 609-517-0059.

Hope for the Ordille children

The fourth annual “Hope for the Ordille Children” fundraiser will be held 3-8 p.m. Sunday, June 29 at the American Legion Post 396, 3218 W. Brigantine Ave. There will be food and games, door prizes, 50/50 and Chinese auctions. Tickets are $15; ages 12 and under are free. All proceeds go directly to the Ordille family to help 12-year-old Tommy, who has an autoimmune disorder and needs monthly IVIG treatments, and 10-year-old Lucas, who has static encephalopathy and cannot walk or talk. Brigantine Pirate Poster Contest

Pirates Weekend begins July 18. If you are interested in creating a pirate poster in any medium, you can pick up your poster board at the Brigantine Community Center June 30-July 12. The finished poster must be returned to the Community Center no later than July 15. Name, address and phone number must be on the back of the poster in order to be eligible for judging by the event committee. There is no age restriction. Winning posters will be hung throughout the city in store windows. Call Mary at 609-266-1685.

Free Beach Patrol Swim Lessons

Registration for free swimming lessons will be 11a-4p Tuesday, July 1 through Sunday, July 6 at the City Dock, located at 26th and Bayshore Avenue. Swim lessons will start on Monday, July 7. Levels are Pre-Beginner, Beginner, Advanced Beginners, Swimmers, and Basic Emergency Water Safety. Full details & lesson times will be posted at registration.

Red Cross Blood Drive July 2

An American Red Cross, Jim Holl Blood Drive: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 at the Brigantine Community Center on 42nd Street. Blood donations typically decline in the summer, especially around the holidays. To help recruit donors, the Red Cross is offering a limited edition Red Cross T-shirt to anyone who comes to give blood at this event, while supplies last.

Beach Volleyball Tournament

The Brigantine Beach Volleyball Association, in conjunction with Great American Volleyball, will hold a three-day volleyball tournament over the Fourth of July weekend, July 4-6, with skill levels of B, BB, A, AA and Open. The event will be held at the 38th Street beach. Cost of $50-70 benefits the BBVA Scholarship Fund.

Brigantine Family Fun Day

Brigantine’s Family Fun Day 4-9 p.m. Saturday, July 5 (rain date July 6) at Haneman Park and 15th Street South, between the Community Presbyterian Church and the municipal buildings. Live music, rides, games, vendors, strolling entertainers, and food will be offered. For more information, call the CER at 609-264-7350.
