Details from Beachcomber News: It’s almost time for “Brigantine Surf Jam”. The annual contest is just a few weeks away and will be held one day during a week-long waiting period. (same format professional contests use) The waiting period begins Tuesday Aug. 5 and will end Sunday, Aug. 10. The contest will be announced as soon as the forecast presents itself.
The Brigantine Surf Jam competition starts at 8a sharp on the day chosen, at the Brigantine South Jetty beach. All competitors must report by 7:30 am. Competitors must monitor the Facebook page “Brigantine Surf Jam” for all updates.
Brigantine has some of the best surfers on the east coast, like Linda Davoli who was inducted into the East Coast Surf Legends Hall of Fame in 2002. Even though Surf Jam contestants are limited to current or former Brigantine residents, everyone’s invited to come and watch the surfing contest, which is ultimately a celebration of the beautiful island we call home.
Entry Fee: $20 for individuals competing in one division or an additional $15 if competing in two or more divisions. The entry fee includes:
- Surf Jam competition
- Grilled lunch
- Surf Jam T-shirt
- Medals & trophies to the winners
Competitors can compete in body boarding or surfing, but not both. Stand-up paddle boarding is now a special category t00. Contestants should register no later than Friday, Aug. 1.
