Brigantine’s Phil Guenther to Lay off 40 Teachers Aides.

Parents and staff are protesting Phil Guenthers plan to privatize the services of personal aides assigned to students. Brigantine’s Guenther informed 40 aides they’ll be laid off as of June 30.

Surprised? Don’t be. This downsizing isn’t happening inside the bloated Brigantine School district. Rather, School Superintendent Guenther, NOT Mayor Guenther, is sending 40 aides packin’ at his Atlantic County Special Services School where he’s in charge.

Guenther also is superintendent at the Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) School in Mays Landing.

It’s a fact. Phil Guenther can make unpopular decisions and hand out pink slips. He just doesn’t use those skills here in Brigantine, where employee count expanded by a whopping 20, from 2015 to 2016. More jobs = more votes.

EXAMPLE of Brigantine Mayor; Phil Guenther, poor management:

  • Brigantine taxpayers are laying out $24,353 annually for each Brigantine School district pupil.
  • Atlantic City: $26,634.

  1. He needs to get rid of the fat in Brigantine – police, fire, teachers, aides, and other govt. workers!

  2. Being an educator for 35 years I have NEVER seen 40 aides in a school district let alone in only an elementary and middle school. Only in Brigantine does the mayor think he has full reign over the taxpayers’ money and virtually throws fuel over our hard earned cash then tosses a match on it

40 aides sent packing!!! Guess you guys think. Governor Christy has some good plans too!

  4. Guenther is Goofy

Regarding Guenther as superintendent, yes yes yes…he is a hypocrite! Mayor Phil Guenther is superintendent at two schools, that are not connected. God forbid that happen in Brigantine schools.. with a superintendent, 2 principals and declining enrollment. Scores as a 3 school (C) as stated on http://www.greatschools.org

Pruitt, Fox, Reed/Platt all send their kids to higher scoring schools! Based on yearbook pictures…2013 to 2015… enrollment is down 10%. Faculty #s stay the same practically….yet Pruitt, or shall we say….brother-in-law of non-elected, mayoral appointed then BOE pres Michelle Maguire. Wifey of former Brig employee and sister-in-law of FF James (hope I have this as right) His (Pruitt) lame “consolidation” report is based on 2013 enrollment figures. Took 2 years to do his research. It took me an hour. Just saying.

Go to Brigantine middle school and see for yourself. I counted 2005 8th grade class pictures mounted on the wall in lobby. Approx. 135 students. Jump ahead to 2015 8th grade graduates….drum roll please….64 grads. That’s over a 50% drop in student population in just 10 years. Can’t blame Superstorm Sandy on that!

I also heard that Guenther’s students of ACIT are now using the classrooms in ACSSS. Is Phil trying to push out the special needs kids? Hmmmmm.

Also to note: why is it a special needs child rides the bus from Brigantine on rte 30. It takes an hour each way. Yet able bodied highschool ACIT kids ride the expressway for approx. a half hour. hmmmmmmm…FAIR? These kids are DISABLED! Let’s just make THEIR trip LONGER!

Aides are absolutely valuable to the children! They’re losing their jobs, pensions and healthcare. But these cutbacks will never happen in Brigantine. Phil keeps on hiring and retiring.

As a dutiful taxpayer, Conrad stated at last meeting to Guenther: ‘you cant have it both ways’.

Take a look at those “new” teachers contracts. Simpson, Guenther and Bew all have relatives working there. Brigantine DNA is good. Screw everyone else. Work your 3 jobs and pay your taxes. Good luck in selling your Brigantine home.
