Classic Brigantine Photos

A classic Brigantine photo collection through the years.

The City of Brigantine passed through a series of name changes over the years. The area was originally incorporated as Brigantine Beach Borough in 1890. We  became the City of Brigantine City in 1897.  This name lasted until 1914, when it was renamed the City of East Atlantic City. On March 16, 1924, Brigantine was incorporated as a city, replacing East Atlantic City.

Even though we personally like to call this island ‘Brigantine Beach’, just thought we’d set the record straight. Let’s take a look at some pictures from the past, shall we?

What year did the Toll fee stop on the original 1944 Brigantine Bridge Toll? I grew up in Atlantic City in the late 50’s. I don’t recall as a child seeing my parents paying a toll going into Brigantine. I remember seeing the toll booth just before the Drawbridge shack as a kid but don’t recall them paying a toll. I remember seeing them with bridge Tickets.
