Garden Club Beautifies Brigantine

From Phyllis Glomb of the Brigantine Garden Club: Last weekend, The ‘Secret Garden’ tour was enjoyed by all who attended. The weather cooperated by giving us a magnificently sunny day with low humidity, a light breeze, and no bugs.

Thanks to all the residents who shared their properties for the tour: Brant Beach Garden neighbors, the Hinchey-Wallers, the Mantellos, the Cowheys, the Gepperts, the Faheys, the Bergins, and the Harts/Marables.

Thanks to Gina Bergin, chairman of the event, for all of your hard work. Thanks to John Ceresani who donated the hostas that we sold. Thanks to Linda Mantello for the tomato plants that we gave away. Thanks to the crafters whose merchandise we sold; they are Ethel Alekna, Gina Bergin, Donna Cowhey, Phyllis Glomb, Laurel Leigh, Doretta Lupinacci, Johanne Milnes, Debbie Pucci, and Julie Watkins.

Thanks to the club members who gave their time that day to work at the event. Thank you especially to our patrons who made donations. Our work around the island continues through your generosity. It takes a village to raise a garden tour!

We cordially extend an invitation to anyone interested in gardening to attend our next meeting on Monday, July 7, at the Community Center.

The club meets the first Monday of each month from March until October. There are no dues or fees. Some members tend city garden plots, and several are still available, but this is not a requirement for joining.

We are still looking for some additional willing people to give out the prestigious property awards. We also need helpers to adopt a pot on the seawall just to water it every couple of days in hot weather. (By the time you read this, those pots should be planted and ready for the summer.)

Check out our Facebook page Brigantine Garden Club for more info. Refreshments are always served. We welcome summer residents; no to be here full-time to join our group.

Engraved leaves are still available on the beautiful bronze commemorative tree which is located on the bottom floor of the library. Call 609-266-3685 and leave a message for more information.

Let us celebrate our independence by giving thanks for living in the best nation in the world. Let us appreciate our freedoms and rights. Let us proudly fly our flag this holiday weekend to display our patriotism. I want to thank you for all that you do to help make Brigantine a more beautiful place to live
