Brigantine Police reports a ‘near-drowning’ incident.

On June 5, 2021 at approximately 3:22p, Brigantine Police responded to the pool at Legacy Resorts,1400 Ocean Ave, for the report of a missing child.

Officers on scene noted that the pool was cloudy.

Brigantine Officer Panas made the decision to enter the water and check for the missing child.

The child, an 11 year old female, was located at the bottom of the pool.

Officer Panas swam the female to the edge of the pool where Sgt. Devine and Ofc. Ludy began CPR.

The child was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. Her condition is not immediately available.

An investigation was conducted by Brigantine Police with the assistance of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

At this time the joint investigation has yielded that the child was playing in the pool area and that this incident was accidental in nature. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Det. Ferris at 609-266-7414.

No further information on this incident will be released due to the victim’s age and out of respect for the privacy of her family.
