Brigantine Times: The Rod has been sitting vacant ever since Super Storm Sandy hit Brigantine, also sitting vacant since Sandy hit Brigantine is the building that sits right next to the Rod and Reel.

The Brigantine Planning Board approved the application to tear down the building next to the Rod and Reel and allow a new side by side duplex to be built there. The owners of the property also received approval for a bulkhead replacement of the property.

Unless the existing Rod and Reel building is completely rehabbed, the property can’t be developed with a new building or condo development without a new bulkhead.

Getting a new bulkhead will greatly help with flooding in that area and allow for that property to be redeveloped and meet all of the city’s codes.

The Rod & Reel Tavern in Brigantine, New Jersey, was significantly damaged by Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and remained closed thereafter. In May 2013, its liquor license was auctioned by the New Jersey Division of Taxation due to unpaid taxes. The winning bid of $145,000 came from Michael Snyder and his partner, Jack Scheurich, who also owned “The Cove” in Brigantine.

Subsequent reports indicate that the Rod & Reel property was sold to Jack Scheurich, with plans to demolish the existing structure and construct a side-by-side duplex on the site.
