BEST OF BRIGANTINE

Brigantine water temps hit the 70 mark pretty fast this year. With it, brings lot’s of great fishing action in the surf, back bays or a few miles out on a Brigantine fishing charter.

Warm waters have fired up some excellent Brown shark action along the Jersey shore. No worries about swimming though. Browns are not aggressive. They’re afraid of bathers and stay away.

Brown sharks are also a protected species. You must catch & release. Take a quick pic and treat them with respect. Get them back into the water asap.

Wanna catch a shark along the beach? Wire leader is recommended. Shark bait? Bunker, mackerel, king fish heads or any type of meat.

Want to head out for some REAL ACTION? Might be time to charter a Brigantine fishing boat for you and your buddies. We recommend BABU Charters. A real beauty of vessel captained by John Wilkerson and docked at Deebold Marina, 434 West Shore Drive in Brigantine.

From Babu Charters: Our first shark trip of the season had crew of 5. We broke the inlet at first light, ran to the 20 fathom line, and found dirty water. We continued offshore until we found clean water along with turtles and pods of large fin-back whales (40 to 50 foot long) at 27 fathoms about 40 miles out. We put the chum pot out and trolled for about 15 minutes to get a good slick going, then deployed three lines at varying depths. It took a couple of hours for the first shark to arrive, but once we had some in the slick they stayed the remainder of the day.

Another Brigantine fishing charter report from Babu… We landed 5 blue shark to 98 inches, and took one 62 inch mako home. After butchering the mako we ended up with 10 one gallon zip-lock bags stuffed full of mako steak. The crew and their families will be eating good. Dusky Sharks that we boated and released. We were fishing about 8 miles off Brigantine Beach using bunker chum with bunker as bait while anchored over a wreck in 80 feet of water. All fish in 6 foot range, and released unharmed.
