Brigantine To Eliminate Police Chief Position?

Brigantine Beach PoliceFrom Brigantine Patrolman; Rich DeLeon –

As you may have heard, Brigantine City Council is seriously looking into the feasibility of eliminating the police chief position in favor of an appointed public safety director. I have stated at two previous council meetings that the membership of Brigantine PBA Local 204 opposes the elimination of the top leadership position in the police department.

There are several reasons the PBA, along with the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police and the Atlantic County Chiefs of Police, oppose this move and I encourage you to visit the PBA’s website at www.brigantinepba204.com or www.facebook.com/brigantinepba to read some articles that articulate our position.

Brigantine PBA also invites the public to attend the next council meeting at 6 p.m. March 6 at City Hall to hear comments from the NJSACOP.

Hopefully city council will see that the elimination of the police chief position from the Brigantine Police Department is not in the best interest of the taxpayers of Brigantine and will undermine the integrity and organization of the police department.
