Who Will Fill Empty Council Seat in Brigantine’s 1st Ward?

Members of the Brigantine GOP have nominated three people to fill the vacant first ward council seat. This person will serve the rest of Councilman Andy Simpson’s term in the 1st ward…expiring NOV 2015. Simpson is now a Councilman at Large.

Karen Bew

Nominations include local resident Karen Bew, a retired school teacher. Ms. Bew is married to Gordon Bew, a retired captain of the Brigantine Fire Department.

A political newbie, Ms. Bew is also the mother of Melissa Bew Knoff, a Brigantine school teacher. Karen Bew also has a son-in-law in the Brigantine Police Department.

The second GOP nominee is former Brigantine councilman; John Murray. Mr. Murray lost his council seat to the Kern/Pullella ticket in 2010. He previously served on city council for 10 years.

Murray is a member of the Republican Club and was a Chamber of Commerce president. Murray has a son in the Brigantine Fire Department and a son-in-law in the Brigantine Police Department.

The third nominee is Neil Kane; a highly respected detective for Atlantic City and a lifetime resident of Brigantine. Kane is actively involved in coaching Brigantine baseball & soccer. He’s also a member of the Brigantine Elks & St. Thomas Church.
